A shot in the dark. BTS.

You may have already seen the photos of my wife and sister circulating Facebook already but here is a brief post about what happened behind the scenes.

Usually my lovely wife doesn’t really like me experimenting practising my photography on her but this time she actually asked me to take some nice pics before we went to a movie last night. Sherlock Holmes (highly recommended by the way).

So I asked a very loaded question. “how ‘nice’ do you want them to be?”

Knowing that I really meant how much lighting gear can I set up? she said “We want NICE ones”.

So in our secret little code, she gave me permission to set up a quick arsenal of lights (flashes).

Straight after saying that, she followed up with, “but you’ve only got 10 minutes”.

Obviously 10 minutes isn’t  much time but I did it.

I used three flashes.  One was shot through a soft box which was on axis (straight in front of them) and above their heads.

Another was used for the soft golden glow coming up from the ground and the third flash was

behind them pointing straight at their heads used as a ‘hair light’. Just for a little extra sparkle.

I’m pretty happy about how they turned out (for a 10 minute job).

What do you think?
